Magic in Lumia
Magic is an often misunderstood concept in Lumia. While there are many similarities between Divine and Arcane magic (some even share the same effects), the sources and origins are completely different.
Arcane magic was originally brought to Lumia by the Luminari, the Celestial-like beings that are now all but extinct. They first taught certain species, like Dragons, who have the blood of the Primal Realm within them how to tap into it and create wonders. After awakening the blood, they began to teach the different races cantrips, and before long how to tap into the Primal Realm without the need of specialized blood. They further strengthened the connection between the realms with the forgotten art of crystallizing pure magic, pieces of the Primal Realm. The magic itself works by tapping into the Primal Realm, where the elements were first created, and shaped to the caster’s desire. This can be as refined as another living being, to something as raw as streaks of lightning. Some arcane magic can even recreate pieces of the caster, essentially healing them, or augment them in ways never thought possible. The downside here is that for most, being too encumbered hinders the mind and movements, and can interrupt a calling from the Primal Plane, making the time and energy spent useless.
Divine magic is not truly magic. Although casted in the same way as Arcane magic, this was only due to it being the way the Luminari taught to call magic, so the Titans gave it the same mechanic. The source of divine magic is not the Primal Plane, however, but from the Pocket Plane the Titan controls. It is the connection the caster forges with their Titan to be able to call materials and miracles from their homes, and the Titan can allow or disallow it at any time. The ability to heal comes much easier to one with the divine, as the Plane they call magic from has a controller, therefore a miracle can be shaped by a much greater mind before being called. The downside is that Titans are less likely to give raw elemental or primal strength to their followers, most simply because Titans must tap into the Primal plane themselves to give raw elements to their followers, and Titans are self-serving first and foremost.
There are a few beings who set out to learn both types of magic, though it requires much work and sacrifice. Some see it as getting the best of both types of magical calling, but others see it as taking the downsides from both and never truly becoming a master of either.
