What is LuminariMUD?

LuminariMUD is a free, open-source, persistent multiplayer text RPG. It uses Pathfinder / d20-inspired mechanics — classes, races, feats, and skills — set in an original fantasy world rather than a licensed setting.

It is a MUD (Multi-User Dungeon): you play through text, typing commands and reading the game’s descriptions of rooms, characters, and combat. There are no graphics to install and nothing to buy — you connect with a MUD client and play.

What makes it distinct

  • d20 depth. Character building draws on the Pathfinder / d20 tradition, with the tactical combat and progression that implies.
  • An original world. The setting, its regions, and its history are the project’s own — see The World.
  • Open source. The engine is public and community-maintained. Anyone can read the code, report issues, or contribute; see Building.
